Experimental knockdown of FOXD3 was shown to have a direct positive impact on NB cell migration and invasion, notably via its effect on matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) expression, but also on NB cell growth and angiogenesis suggesting that it has a general effect on the tumorigenic process (Li D. et al., 2013). The gene discussed is FOXD3; the disease is neuroblastoma.
