Neuroinflammation is another important feature of ALS, and several studies have detected an increase in inflammation-associated molecules, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and TNF alpha (TNF − α) (Moreau et al., 2005) and galectin-3 (GAL-3) (Zhou et al., 2010).
