Activation of Ano1 in ICC is due to Ca2+ release from intracellular ER stores6, and Ca2+ release and the spontaneous transient inward currents (STICs) resulting from activation of Ano1 channels are inhibited by blocking the refilling of the ER with the SERCA pump inhibitor, thapsigargin6,30,31, or by depleting ER stores by inhibiting SOCE in ICC38. The gene discussed is ANO1; the disease is intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
