Another analysis measuring STAT3 activation across RCC subtypes by detection of phosphorylated STAT3 in tissue microarray showed similar numbers of tumors with activated STAT3 in clear cell and papillary RCC (57–59%), while fewer chromophobe cases (33%) showed STAT3 activation; however, the small sample size and possibility of false negatives due to small tissue core size may limit the usefulness of these conclusions (1). Here, STAT3 is linked to renal cell carcinoma.
