In 6 dpf larvae (3 slc9a3r1+/+, 6 slc9a3r1R180Q/R180Q, 6 slc9a3r1+/R180Q animals used) few differences (although not statistically significant) in the volume of the total SAG (42.439 μm3 for slc9a3r1+/+, 35.454 μm3 for slc9a3r1R180Q/R180Q, 40.237 μm3 for slc9a3r1+/R180Q), and no alterations in the volume of the posterior SAG (13.676 μm3 for slc9a3r1+/+, 11.404 μm3 for slc9a3r1R180Q/R180Q, 12.709 μm3 for slc9a3r1+/R180Q) were detected (Figure 7A,B), thus suggesting that the hearing impairment is not due to a reduction of neurons in this structure. Here, NHERF1 is linked to hearing loss disorder.
