In our study, only one stroke patient positive both for BP autoantibodies by ELISA and immunoblotting (human BP180 and BP180-NC16A) showed binding of IgG autoantibodies to the epidermal side of the BMZ, consistent with works by Messingham et al. (15), Tuusa et al. (16), and Kokkonen et al. (17) in Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease, respectively. Here, COL17A1 is linked to Alzheimer disease.
