In the present study, we comprehensively tested for genetic pleiotropy and enrichment of functional genetic loci influencing birthweight and 15 adult cardiometabolic disease traits (CMD) including BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, waist circumference, type 2 diabetes, fasting plasma glucose, fasting plasma insulin, glycated hemoglobin, insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, and total glycerides using a statistical approach that integrates pleiotropy and functional annotation data. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
