To observe the efficacy and safety of adding glimepiride to an established insulin therapy in poorly controlled type 2 diabetes and to assess the resulting changes in the HMW adiponectin serum levels and glycemia after glimepiride treatment, 56 subjects with poorly controlled insulin-treated type 2 diabetes were randomly assigned to either the glimepiride-treated group (n = 29) or the insulin-increasing group (n = 27) [179]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
