As such, in line with previous reports38, weak expression of GATA2 might be essential for inv(16) leukemia, and responsible for partial myelomonocytic differentiation featured by occasional cells of “hybrid” nature (nuclear characteristics of monocytes and both basophilic and eosinophilic granules), but increased GATA2 levels are needed for further differentiation. The gene discussed is GATA2; the disease is leukemia.
