A previous report has identified a signal of malaria-driven natural selection, at rs10900585 in the ATP2B4 gene, by estimating the population-scaled selection coefficient in a time series of allele frequencies [50] in 92 ancient European samples from the Bronze Age (5000 bp) to the Post-Roman era [51], suggesting an ancient role of ATP2B4 in malaria-driven selection.
