Although many evidences presented above have been done using cancer cell lines and animal models, clinical evidences also show that HIF-1α accumulation, a factor upregulated during hypoxia, to be associated with poor patient survival in patients with early stage CC (Birner et al., 2000) and lymph node-positive breast cancer (Schindl et al., 2002). The gene discussed is HIF1A; the disease is cancer.
