Because these HTLV-1-infected T-cell lines preserve Tax expression (Fig. 1B), we next determined whether Tax induces the expression of CADM1. We found that peripheral blood lymphocytes immortalized by Tax expressed CADM1, which was comparable to the levels in ATLL-derived cell lines (Fig. 1C), indicating that CADM1 is overexpressed in both Tax-positive HTLV-1-infected T-cells and Tax-negative ATLL cells. The gene discussed is CADM1; the disease is adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma.
