TP53 and neoplasm: The TP53 protein which is central for maintaining genomic stability and preventing tumor formation is best characterized as a DNA-binding transcription factor with potential to bind to several hundred different promoter elements in the genome, hence regulating expression of hundreds of genes involved in control of processes related to tumor growth, including cell cycle regulation, DNA preservation, apoptosis, angiogenesis inhibition, and cellular senescence [18–20].
