CD38 and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia: Another explanation could be that CD38 expression, which is responsible for the transformation of NAD+ (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) to the active second messengers NAADP and cADPr (cyclic ADP ribose) [35], may be differentially expressed in B-NHL and B-CLL cells, constituting a switch between the two GA101-activated signaling pathways; however, this hypothesis was not confirmed by our results obtained in cell lines and tested B-CLL.
