Whereas in Caucasians deletion of the entire RHD gene is the most common cause of the RhD-negative phenotype, RHDψ (66%), RHD-CE-D hybrid gene (15%) and RHD gene deletion (18%) are the most prevalent causes of the RhD-negative phenotype among black Africans [1, 6]. This evidence concerns the gene RHD and rheumatic heart disease.
