Since SMCFAs (C12:0–C16:0) are considered hypercholesterolemic [35], and medium chain fatty acids (C6 to C12) from milk induce angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) gene expression, which is responsible for the activation in the human colon cancer cell line [36], producing milk with a reduced content of these fatty acids might be interesting for the dairy industry. The gene discussed is ANGPTL4; the disease is colonic neoplasm.
