In Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyloid β (Aβ) oligomers are hypothesized to trigger tau phosphorylation and neuronal alterations by activating kinases (Duyckaerts, Delatour, & Potier, 2009; Selkoe & Hardy, 2016), leading to progressive cognitive decline (Scheltens et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
