High expression of FN1 has been associated with tumorigenesis and metastasis in a variety of solid cancers, and suppression of FN1 has been linked to reduced cancer cell proliferation and increased apoptosis.60–65 Several studies have also demonstrated that down-regulation of FN1 expression could be mediated by microRNAs, which led to tumor suppression in different cancers.66–68 The role of FN1 in melanoma has not been well established, although two studies reported that FN1 was linked to the hypoxic microenvironment of melanoma in promoting an invasive tumor phenotype.69 Here, FN1 is linked to melanoma.
