EFHC1 and epilepsy: Together, our results make strides to reconcile the association of a non-ion channel protein with epilepsy by suggesting a possible role for EFHC-1 in modulating ion channels to fine-tune neuronal excitation/transmission both at the cilium, the site for sensory input (mechanosensation), and at the synapse, the site for sensory output that regulates the amount of neurotransmitter released.
