These findings are in agreement with previous studies that found increased tau phosphorylation in mouse models of T1DM and T2DM (Guo et al., 2016; Kim, Backus, Oh, Hayes, & Feldman, 2009), in diabetic monkeys (Morales‐Corraliza et al., 2016), and in postmortem brain samples from patients with T2DM (Liu, Liu, Grundke‐Iqbal, Iqbal, & Gong, 2009). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
