A study using IL-18/CEA CAR T cells to treat immunocompetent mice with advanced pancreatic carcinoma showed that constitutive secretion of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-18 resulted in CARs with high T-bet in conjunction with low levels of the transcription factor FOXO1 and showed improved antitumor efficacy (150). The gene discussed is IL18; the disease is exocrine pancreatic carcinoma.
