The new gene emergence phylogenetic time-points were demonstrated to correlate with two major classes of cancer genes: the “caretakers” of older phylostrata, like PS1–PS2, which participate in general functions that support genome stability; the “gatekeepers” of younger phylostrata, like PS6, PS11 and PS12, which are involved in cellular signaling and growth processes52–54,84,85 (Supplemental Table S8). This evidence concerns the gene TAS2R63P and cancer.
