Although neovascular AMD is traditionally considered one of the leading causes of irreversible vision loss in the developed Countries, the large-scale utilization of anti-VEGF drugs, particularly evident in the last 10 years, allowed an outstanding reduction of AMD patients eligible for legal blindness certification104–106, preserving or restoring their vision-related quality of life107–109. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and age-related macular degeneration.
