The identification of circulating tumor cells carrying PI3KCA should become a useful biomarker in the routine practice of breast cancer to prevent tumor recurrence but also to overcome the problems of intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity, as well as temporal, of the current biomarkers, which are hormonal receptor or HER2 expression measurements whose evolutions are not re-evaluated during treatments or in all metastatic sites. This evidence concerns the gene ERBB2 and breast carcinoma.
