Most recently additional two cycle arrest biomarkers were added to the growing list of AKI biomarkers, namely, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2), with the potential to provide new mechanistic insights into the pathogenesis of AKI on one hand and the ability for early detection of this clinical setting, on the other [48,57]. This evidence concerns the gene TIMP2 and acute kidney injury.
