Although not focussed on cardiac disease, another study identified ECM1 to be highly and selectively expressed by the TH2 subset of lymphocytes, and implicated ECM1 in controlling their egress from lymph nodes to the site of inflammation in the respiratory system; ECM1 deletion resulted in significantly reduced allergic airway inflammation in vivo, with reduced infiltration of eosinophils, macrophages and lymphocytes [26]. The gene discussed is ECM1; the disease is heart disorder.
