Differently, Renju et al. [42] observed that rats submitted to the induction of cholesterol-rich atherosclerosis had lower activity of liver enzymes CAT, SOD, GPx and glutathione reductase (GRd), whereas the treatment with lycopene 10 mg/kg body weight for 60 days produced an increase in the activity of these enzymes when compared to the group that consumed high-cholesterol diet. Here, SOD1 is linked to atherosclerosis.
