In a study that demonstrated the effects of resveratrol on BRCA-1 methylation [41], it was shown that exposure of breast cancer cells MCF7 to tumor promoter TCDD (2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin) resulted in the hypermethylation of BRCA-1 promoter CpG island concomitant with an increased association of trimethylated histone H3K9 and DNMTs, namely DNMT1, DNMT3a and DNMT3b, with BRCA-1 promoter. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is neoplasm.
