TP53 and breast cancer: BC acts in several ways to counter these carcinogenic effects of aflatoxin: (1) BC up-regulates expression of TP53, thereby competing with AFBE’s strategy to reduce production of TP53 transcript (Reddy et al., 2006), (2) BC acts on CPY1A resulting in decreased production of AFBE and increased metabolism of AFB1 to aflatoxin M1, a less toxic metabolite (Krinsky, 1993; Gradelet et al., 1997, 1998), and (3) BC reduces the production of AFB1 through its antioxidant activities (Krinsky, 1989; Ponts et al., 2006; Fiedor and Burda, 2014; Montibus et al., 2015).
