TSPO and Abnormal retinal morphology: Given the preexisting data demonstrating (i) an upregulation of TSPO in microglia [21, 22] and reactive astrocytes in the brain [9], (ii) a protective effect of agonistic TSPO ligands in damaged peripheral and central nervous system, and (iii) findings that it modulates the glial response pattern in the context of retinal disease [24], we were interested in effects of enhanced TSPO signaling on Müller cells.
