Activation of PPARα had a beneficial effect on cholestatic liver diseases, and was mainly involved in the inhibition of CYP7A1 and upregulation of CYP3A4, UGT1A, and SULT2A1, and induction of MDR2 to increase biliary phospholipids secretion (Ghonem et al., 2015).
