Some HLA types were protective for sarcopenia: increasing copies of DQB1*06:02, DRB5*01:01, and DRB1*15:01 were all associated with reduced likelihood of sarcopenia, and have previously been implicated in a number of studies in the development of multiple sclerosis (6), although mainly as part of an extended haplotype including all three types. The gene discussed is HLA-DRB5; the disease is multiple sclerosis.
