EGFR and ΔNp63α are two key markers in HNC since their expression is upregulated in 90% and 80% respectively of HNC primary tumours.7,30 They are both involved in the promotion of proliferation and migration of HNC cell lines, cooperating with the TGFβ pathway or independently, activating pathways such as PI3K and MAPK.12 Upon SAHA treatment, we found a remarkable decrease in the expression of both ΔNp63α and EGFR in both HPV-positive and HPV-negative HNC cell lines, together with the inhibition of PI3K and ERK1/2 pathways, and, as mentioned above, decreased activation of the TGFβ pathway. The gene discussed is MAPK3; the disease is neoplasm.
