BET proteins influence gene expression, cell-cycle regulation and maintain an association with chromatin throughout mitosis, facilitating “gene bookmarking.” As a member of the BET family, BRD4 bromodomain containing 4 (BRD4) acts by inducing the expression of growth-promoting genes and has been described as a therapeutic target for AML (11). The gene discussed is BRD4; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
