Neutrophil-driven type 1 IFN signaling in blood, including upregulated IFIT1, IFIT2, IFIT3, and genes similar to those in our data [25], but not type 1 IFNs themselves have been identified as a signature of active tuberculosis [26], and inhibiting this pathway by using zileuton, an arachidonic acid metabolism modulator, protects mice from tuberculosis [27].
