CCN1 (cysteine-rich protein 61), a protein involved in inflammation, cell proliferation and angiogenesis, among others, was shown to be upregulated in psoriasis skin lesions and to promote keratinocyte proliferation via the α6β1/PI3K/Akt/NF-κB pathway, but was also shown to increase the production of IL-1β via the p38 MAPK signaling pathway. The gene discussed is CCN1; the disease is psoriasis.
