TAC1 and cancer: Loss of cell–cell contacts or changes in cell adhesion properties may promote bleb formation.46 Most of the experiments studying bleb formation were performed under serum-stimulating conditions in which blebbing was, in fact, dependent on the presence of FCS or lysophosphatidic acid.47–49 Cells undergo blebbing after exposure to substance P/neurokinin-1 receptor complex, H2O2, ATP and Pi.50–55 We demonstrated for the first time that ECM degradation products modify cancer cell morphology by generating a blebbing phenomenon in absence of FCS, leading to extracellular vesicle shedding.
