PDPN and infarction: More recently, Cimini and colleagues [114] found that the podoplanin-positive cell population associated with the lymphangiogenic and fibrogenic responses during myocardial wound repair after infarction is widely heterogeneous and displays epitopes of fibrogenic and endothelial commitment, suggesting an alternate ability of podoplanin-positive cardiac cells to generate lymphatic endothelium and pro-fibrotic cells.
