Other studies on lung adenocarcinomas showed that the presence of podoplanin-positive CAFs does not correlate with the mutation status of tumor cells [196], but is responsible for the resistance of lung adenocarcinoma cell lines to tyrosine kinase inhibitors of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and for the lower overall response to EGFR inhibitors exhibited by patients with recurrent tumors harboring an EGFR-activating mutation with respect to patients with podoplanin-negative CAFs [197]. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and lung adenocarcinoma.
