In addition, the relative SMMHC positive area (0.02875 ± 0.01251 vs 0.008826 ± 0.003849, P<0.05), Myh11-mRNA (2.270 ± 0.5375 vs 1.084 ± 0.3131, P<0.01), and SMMHC protein levels (1.291 ± 0.4872 vs 0.7768 ± 0.2793, P<0.01) were also significantly higher in the S. pneumoniae pneumonia group compared to the uninfected controls (Figures 2(f)–2(j)).
