Therefore, the current study aimed to 1) assess the gene-specific promoter DNA methylation status of established M1- and M2-associated macrophage polarization markers STAT1, STAT6, MHC2, IL12b, iNOS, JAK1, JAK2 and SOCS5 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with CAD, and 2) subsequently compare the DNA methylation status of these genes in PBMCs of CAD patients and healthy controls to explore the role of DNA methylation in macrophage polarization. The gene discussed is STAT6; the disease is coronary artery disorder.
