CST3 and Hypertension: Serum cystatin C concentration, taken to represent renal SVD, was associated with lower neuropsychological tests scores, the presence of MRI‐identified brain infarcts, and the volume of white matter lesions.18 Age, waist circumference, hypertension, reduced physical activity, cigarette smoking, and C‐reactive protein were all multivariate correlates of cystatin C concentration.18 These results provide evidence that SVD may be a systemic disorder, potentially more pronounced in patients with multimorbidity, and that shared vascular risk factors are relevant.32
