Several reports have demonstrated that Hh pathway activation induces stem cell markers and is involved in the enhancement of epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) thus regulating metastasis in various malignancies including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.5, 13 The involvement of Shh increases dramatically from PanIN lesions to PDAC to metastatic tumours.14 Therefore, targeting the Shh pathway is regarded as a beneficial strategy for the prevention and treatment of pancreatic cancer. This evidence concerns the gene SHH and metastatic neoplasm.
