These results indicate that the augmentation of PrPC levels by co-culture with TUDCA-treated CKD-hMSCs protects SH-SY5Y cells against uremic toxin-induced ER stress through the activation of anti-oxidant enzymes, suggesting that PrPC plays a key role in protection against ER stress in neural cells under conditions of CKD-mediated oxidative stress.
