SERPINE1 and vascular disorder: The occurrence of endothelial damage leads to the secretion of other biomarkers, notably plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and soluble thrombomodulin (sTM) responsible for the perturbation of the coagulation process and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) responsible for angiogenesis.1 The interaction of these biomarkers with other proinflammatory cytokines, as well as white blood cells and smooth muscle cells, leads to vessel wall remodeling and ultimately to various types of vasculopathy.
