MYB and acute myeloid leukemia: The first identified MYB gene was v-myb in 1982 from the avian myeloblastosis virus, a chicken oncogene that leads to acute myeloblastic leukemia (Klempnauer, Gonda & Bishop, 1982), thus leading to the name myb. C-myb, a v-MYB-related gene was subsequently found in animal cells.
