Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) is one of the mainly expressed pattern recognition receptor in monocytes, has diverse ligands (5), and it is pivotal in the SLE pathophysiology since it promotes an interferogenic response and has been shown to augment disease activity in an animal model of SLE through the recognition of the bacterial curli (5). This evidence concerns the gene TLR2 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
