PTX3 and Sepsis: We confirmed that PTX3 is barely detectable in plasma from HV, around 2 ng/mL in the study reported by Yamasaki et al. (25) and <1 ng/mL herein, while it is much greater in sepsis patients, up to 100 ng/mL in the study reported by Daigo et al. (10) and up to 800-fold greater herein for highest values; this is in accordance with a prompt liberation of preformed PTX3 from granules after an inflammatory trigger (26).
