Tobacco smoking was associated with significant modifications of gene methylation.[39–41] Tobacco smoking was shown to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.[42,43] A mice experiment showed BAX expression could be induced by exposure to smoking in oocytes.[8] Furthermore, ovarian damage caused by smoking could prevented by BAX inactivation.[44] Our study found that BAX methylation was associated with smoking among individuals aged over 70. This evidence concerns the gene BAX and cardiovascular disorder.
