TLR2 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: The ability of BUD to increase expression of key receptors on both MDMs (SR-AI, MARCO, CD206, CD93) and alveolar macrophages (TLR2), that have a significant role in bacterial recognition (SR-AI, MARCO, CD206)[44–46] and recognition of apoptotic cells (CD93), immune responses that have been identified as impaired in COPD[27], may suggest a role for BUD in improving macrophage function in COPD, beyond anti-inflammatory effects.
