In the early stages of the disease, KCs expand rapidly and secrete cytokines and chemokines such as IL-1, TNF-α, MCP-1, and C-C motif chemokine ligand (CCL)5 [37], reflecting their involvement in the control of inflammatory responses in NASH and their major role in the recruitment of inflammatory cells in the liver [38, 39].
